So Long, Insecurity (teen edition)

{Read my disclosure policy}

So Long, Insecurity Teen Edition is a boost of encouragement for teen girls by Beth Moore. This book tackles many issues that teen girls face with advice for learning "to live as healthy, secure girls."  So Long, Insecurity's fun design is like a magazine, with lots of photographs, Q & A, stats, and interviews among the "articles" of information.

I find the format to be very teen friendly, and the best part is how Beth Moore incorporates stories of women from the Bible who dealt with insecurity themselves. Serious issues are presented in an easy-to-read format that teens can flip through and read in small increments.

Chapters include the following topics:
  • Fashion
  • Media Hype
  • Boys, Boys, Boys
  • Popularity
  • Tough Stuff
  • Gifts and Talents
  • Competition
  • Secure Girls
Each chapter contains a "Chat About It" section with questions for girls to discuss together. This book would be great for small group study, or for mothers and daughters to read through together.  Parents can use this book as a tool to open the lines of communication, which is so important to maintain through their children's teen years.

So Long Insecurity is different in that it speaks to the heart about contemporary issues in a modern format with substance. Topics that are important to teens often seem superficial to others, but Beth Moore constantly points to God's Word, and writes in a straight-forward manner that does not sugar-coat or trivialize:
"You are precious to God because of who you are....not because of what you wear or how you look! So let your unfading beauty show from the inside out. Let your inner being shine much more beautifully than your clothes, makeup, and hair. Why?  Because you're worth more than what your wear!" (p. 11)
If you have a teen girl in your life, share So Long Insecurity Teen Edition with her. Especially as the school year begins, this book will help girls focus on the important things and guide them toward confidence and being the people God designed them to be.

{The publisher provided me with a review copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.}
