The Three Little Pigs

The classic tale The Three Little Pigs has been updated for the newest generation in this eBook, retold by Roberto Piumini and illustrated by Nicoletta Costa. Part of Kite Readers' Classic Favorites series, the story of the three pigs and their life lessons is a must-read for children of all ages.

This adorable version presents the little pigs in a very different way (one of them is even a girl), and young readers will be delighted and enchanted by both the words and the fun, vibrant illustrations.  Poor Pombo, Golli, and Fonfon! Their house has gotten too full, so their mother sends them off into the world to make their own way. The pigs soon find that "the world is mysterious, and it's also dark at night."

I just love the way this version is retold, and my kids all laughed out loud at the descriptions:

"They walked and they walked until one day they came to a much scarier forest than all the others.  It was raining, the wind was howling, and it was snowing, all at the same time.
It was a wolfish place."

This book is even more fun to read aloud, with its clever "attitude" and alliteration:

"The three were trembling tremendously when Golli, the little girl pig, saw a stack of straw and said to her brothers, 'I shall make a hut with this straw!'"

Combined with the character's expressions, especially the sinister wolf, this clever update to The Three Little Pigs is a must-read.
