Grandma's Guest Review: Courting Cate

About this book:
When This Couple Gets to Courting, Sparks Will Fly!
In Paradise, Pennsylvania, Cate Miller is known more for her sharp tongue and fiery temper than her striking appearance. Her sweet and flirty sister, Betsy, on the other hand, seems to have attracted most of the bachelors in Lancaster County!
But the sisters' wealthy father has made one hard-and-fast rule: older Cate must marry first, before younger Betsy can even start courting. Unfortunately, untamable Cate has driven away every suitor--until Pete Treger comes to town, that is.
Prodded by the men of the area, Pete turns his attention to winning Cate's hand. But is his interest true or is there a scheme at play?
My mom loves Christian fiction and has read several Amish fiction books, both in series and individual. Courting Cate seemed like one she would enjoy.

Here's Grandma's take on Courting Cate, the first book in a new series called The Courtships of Lancaster County:

This is a good beginning to a new series about Amish life.

Cate is a dutiful daughter who does not go against Dat's wishes regarding marriage. She marries Pete to enable her younger sister Betsy to marry. She was immediately put into a difficult situation with her in-laws when she was taken on her wedding day out of Lancaster.

Cate accepted her situation and did all the work expected of her while not feeling loved by Pete. She included prayer in her life and prayed for a better future with Pete, praying for love.

I enjoyed the book very much and look forward to the second one hoping all will find happiness.

The verse that begins the book from  2 Corinthians 12:9  stayed with me throughout the book and is a good ending thought:
My grace is sufficient for thee:  for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
